Advanced driver training - what's that?

Several organizations such as the IAM or RoSPA require that you pass an advanced driving test in order to become "advanced drivers" and qualify for membership to their organization. To pass the test you have to drive to a very high standard and, for most of the advanced tests, follow the guidelines laid down in the Police Driver's Manual - "RoadCraft."

This style of driving embraces the same observation and anticipation skills that we teach on our normal driver training but also lays down strict rules about steering, braking, gear changes etc..

Advanced driving emulates the style of driving used by our class one police drivers - some of the best drivers in the world - and to gain an advanced driving certificate is an achievement to be proud of.

What are the advantages of becoming an advanced driver?

If taking pride in achieving a high level of driving skill - way above the average driver - is not enough then consider this...
As an advanced driver you are about 70% less likely to be involved in a driving related incident* (see note below).
It could be possible to reduce your motoring insurance because you are an advanced driver.
Advanced driving techniques tend to be far kinder to your car, reducing your maintenance bills and the extra smoothness of the drive is usually appreciated by your passengers and, very importantly, none of this has an adverse impact on journey times, in fact a typical advanced driver will reduce his/her journey time.

*Figures vary and rely upon the driver maintaining a high standard of driving after passing the test. Note. we do not say "accidents" because accidents are not avoidable whereas 95% of road incidents are avoidable.
