For many, learning to pass the driving test is the only driver training they recieve and yet over 3,000 people are killed on UK roads every year and many more are seriously injured. Around 1,000 of those killed will be driving whilst at work.

There are various ways to address this issue but driver training for all company drivers is probably the most popular and can be very cost effective when fuel savings, reduced vehicle maintenance costs and potential reduction in insurance premiums are factored in. On a recent SAFED course we were able to show company drivers how to reduce the fuel bill by an average of 11% by slightly modifying their driving style.

However, health and safety law applies to on-the-road work activities as to all work activities, and the risks should be effectively managed within a health and safety management system."
